Crown Prince Haakon reached the finish line before the Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in Birkebeinerrennet. The Norwegian crown prince spent just over four hours on the distance between Rena and Lillehammer.
The Crown Prince completed the 54 kilometers in 4 hours 10 minutes and 10 seconds, while Crown Prince Frederik reached the finish line after 5 hours 5 minutes and 5 seconds.
– It wasn’t quite enough this time, but the crown prince made an honest effort, the organizer writes.
He was over half an hour faster when he debuted in Birkebeinerrennet last year and Haakon said that he had a harder time this year.
– Things went a little slow. But it was fun to participate, he says to Østlendingen.
He praises the Danish crown prince, although he outdistanced him shortly after the race had started.
– He has never lived in a country where people ar skiing cross-country on a daily basis, but that he still takes part in this competition is super impressive. He is much fitter than me and beats me in everything. He bikes, swims and runs, so he’s totally awesome, Crown Prince Haakon says.
Last year Crown Prince Haakon completed the 54 kilometers in 3 hours 36 minutes and 12 seconds.
Duchess Kate’s sister, Pippa Middleton, also participated in the race. She reached the finish line after 5 hours 58 minutes and 34 seconds, according to Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen.
Both Pippa and Frederik has taken part in Vasaloppet earlier this year .
