Kjetil Jansrud used an early run to win the opening World Cup Super-G at Lake Louise in Canada on Sunday.The reigning twice World Cup Super G champion and 2014 Olympic gold medallist started ninth and came in with a time of one minute 33.52 seconds.
Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr was 0.14 seconds behind Jansrud with Swiss Mauro Caviezel 0.21 seconds off the pace for third.Austrian Matthias Mayer,the reigning Olympic gold medallist, took sixth, 0.65 seconds back,with Swiss Beat Feuz,the
Olympic runner-up, 10th, 0.97 adrift.
Beaver Creek, Colorado, will host the next men’s World Cup races beginning
with a Super-G on Friday.
Aksel Lund Svindal ended as number 5.
Jansrud was energetically out of the starting blocks with start number nine and made a very strong figure at Lake Louise.
This means that the Norwegian flag flew,as it has done over the past seven years after the Sunday in the super-G in Lake Louise.Either Jansrud or Svindal have won every time since 2011.
“It was good, but also a bit rough.I think I was a bit lucky with the starting number”
Jansrud told NRK news afterward.
“It was by no means flawless, but at the same time without mistakes.
Three in top ten
Svindal ended 0.57 seconds behind Jansrud.
Adrian Smiseth Sejersted took a rough 8th place,0.89 seconds behind Jansrud, while
Alexander Aamodt Source ended 12th,1.01 seconds behind.
‘’I’m very pleased.It was simply very difficult’’ said Sejersted to NRK news after his second best position in the World Cup.
