Jakob Ingebrigtsen (17) ran in front for the last two laps and took the European Championship 1500m in Berlin on Friday.

The Ingebrigtsen brothers did not play expectedly central roles at the 1500 meter at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

Henrik and Filip had to stretch themselves in the medal match on the track, while the younger brother ran much of the race by himself and took the gold.

Thus, all the three Ingebrigtsen brothers have taken European gold at their favourite distance of 1500 meters over the past six years.

“Well, it was really my turn compared to Henrik and Filip. I am 17 years old and have already reached the goal of my career.I’m speechless,’’ said the gold winner to NRK news after reaching the finish line.

“I know what’s going on, because I’ve seen what Henrik and Filip have been through and have got down to work. If truth be told,I have sacrificed too. I feel I’ve been a top athlete for ten years,”he added.

Championship head

Big brother Henrik had to settle for fourth place on Friday, but looked greatly on his younger brother’s behalf.

“He never stops impressing. The tactics we drove were created for Jacob to win,’’ he told NRK news after finishing.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is the youngest medalist in a European Championship, ever.
Think again gold
The 17-year-old gold medal winner came into the run-up to the finish with several meters of lead on the rest of the field, but towards the finish line it was very close. On the finish line he had only a few centimeters on the pursuers.

On Saturday ,the Ingebrigtsen brothers run the final at 500 meters.Dad, Gjerd Ingebrigtsen thinks there may be more jubilation there.

“The best thing is that Jacob could win there too. He could become a double champion here. He didn’t look tired,’’ he said.
