None of the 200 employees at the Hotel Norway will be allowed to remain when Scandic is taking over what is one of Bergen’s oldest hotels.
At the outset, all the employees were supposed to continue in their jobs at the hotel, but that is no longer the case, NRK writes.
The leader of Hordaland Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union, Djevet Hisenaj, has worked at the hotel for 26 years.
– It’s absolutely terrible, he says.
The reason that employees are not allowed to continue is that the hotel needs to be closed completely for complete renovation, which cost 250 million, and will reopened on May 1, 2017 at the earliest.
– I certainly understand that it must be very tough for the staff to receive this message. It was very sad for me to have to bring this information, says CEO Svein Arild Mevold of Scandic.
