The new Scandinavian Mountains Airport, which is built at the border between Norway and Sweden, has received routes from five Swedish cities.

The privately owned airport will serve ski destinations in both Sweden and Norway, including the Sälen mountains, Trysil, Idre, and Engerdal.

From the winter, the airline BRA will fly from Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Ängelholm, and Växjö into the new airport SkiStar said in a press release. The routes are the first to be reported and they start in late December.

From Scandinavian Mountains Airport, it is 10 minutes to the nearest ski resort in Sälen, while the journey time to Trysil is 40 minutes. The region is Scandinavia’s largest winter destination with more than 100,000 beds in hotels, cabins, and apartments.

General manager, Gudrun Sanaker Lohne, of Destinasjon Trysil is very pleased.

“We have been waiting for this for a long time. Now our guests can visit us more often in a faster and more efficient way’’ she said a press release.

The airport is the first to be built in Sweden in 20 years. It opens on December 22nd.
