Only one in four Norwegians requires replacement due to flight delay. This is despite the fact that they are entitled to compensation.

Only 26 percent of Norwegian passengers require compensation for flight delays, according to a survey conducted by TNS Gallup. 17 percent of respondents hesitated because the process is too complicated and 52 percent did not know how to proceed.

Few are barely aware of the EU directive which stipulates financial compensation of up to 600 euros by flight delays.

Low awareness
Service Company Gate 28 thinks travelers should be more aware of their rights when they are out and flying.
– A crucial factor to attract more travelers to seek financial compensation is to help them to access relevant and updated information about the possibility of getting compensated delay, said Willem van der Hooft who started the company.

EU Directive
He believes that the public increasingly must be informed about the EU directive which was introduced in 2004.
– The directive was introduced to strengthen consumer rights. For example: Most of Norwegians did not know that they can claim financial compensation for delayed flights ten years ago, said van der Hooft.
According to the survey only 26 percent received written or oral information about their rights after experiencing delayed or canceled flights and when they’ve got such information only 45 percent said that it was understandable.
