From 2015 to 2019, the number of overnight stays in Svalbard increased by 30 percent. Foreigners accounted for more than 80 percent of the increase.

Figures from Statistics Norway show.

Statistics show that there were around 166,000 overnight stays at hotels in Svalbard in 2019. Almost half of the stays came from abroad.

In the rest of the country, only 30 percent of hotel stays were made by foreigners.

It was most Germans and Swedish who spent the night in Svalbard between 2015 and 2019.

During these years, there has been more than a fivefold increase of Chinese overnight stays on the archipelago.
