Tourists have captured 713,000 fish this year

New figures show that so far this year, that 713,000 fish has been caught on 52,000 fishing trips organized by tourist fishing companies.

 

This year, tourist fishing companies are for the first time required to report catches of cod, halibut, redfish, catfish and pollock to the Directorate of Fisheries.

The reporting shows that cod is what most caught. The tourists have so far caught and retained 372,000 cod, while Pollock is second in the ranking with 319,000.

The amount of fish released will also be reported. So far 409,000 fish have been released – about 36 percent of all fish being caught.

4,900 fishing trips have ended without a catch.
