Crown Princess Mette-Marit did get excited when she opened Oslo's first sculpture trail created by children at Akershus Fortress. She believes children should have greater influence decoration of the public rooms.
In brilliant sunshine went the Crown Princess from sculpture to sculpture along the new opening child sculpture trail at Akershus Fortress Wednesday.
- This is an incredibly great project. I think it is incredibly important and good that children are allowed to be involved in designing the important places in the city, said Mette-Marit to the news agency NTB, having beheld the total of ten sculptures and greeted the form donors behind.
The ten are selected from nearly 1,000 entries which were submitted when Sparebankstiftelsen DNB announced a sculpture competition for the children in primary school last year.
Crown Princess believes children increasingly need to get help to characterize the townscape.
- This should be a project that can also be taken out in other cities, it's great and important that children are allowed to draw out and characterize the townscape they are a part, she says.
Crown Princess says the ten sculptures along the trail clearly shows that children encounter and use sculptures in a completely different way than adults.
- All the sculptures are so interactive, and it's like children themselves. They want to be involved and participate, says Mette-Marit.
The ten sculptures will stand at Akershus fortress for three years before they returned to their home towns to the children who made them.
