The 30,000 square meter extension at Gardermoen registered its first commercial use on Friday.

The SAS flight to New York was the first commercial flight from the new area of the airport, which will ensure that passengers leaving the Schengen area get more space and modern premises.

The extension will be in operational test operation, which means that there will be a limited number of regular flights from the area.

“The goal is to detect any potential issues before normal operation starts in mid-June,” Avinor Oslo Airport wrote in a press release.

The new area officially opens on June 14.
