Eight out of ten universities are experiencing growth in the number of applicants from abroad. At Oslo Met, the increase for international programs is as much as 161%.

While Oslo Met had 1,454 applicants for the studies International Social Welfare and Health Policy, International Education and Development, and Applied Computer and Information Technology last year, this year’s figure is 4,134, a growth of 161%, Khrono writes.

Other universities are also experiencing noticeably greater interest from abroad.

“We have received a startlingly large increase in international applicants for master’s studies,” Vice-Rector for Education at NTNU Marit Reitan noted.

A total of 9,326 foreign applicants have applied for admission to NTNU this autumn, an increase of as much as 38% since last year.

Notable increase

At the University of Southeast Norway, the number of applications from abroad has increased from 2,159 to 3,468 applicants, an increase of 60%.

Amine Fquihi, leader of the International Students Union Norway, is not surprised by the increase.

“Much of the reason can be attributed to the quality of the education provided in this country,” he says, pointing out that many Norwegian universities are ranked at the top of global rankings.

With the increased number of applicants, competition is tougher as well. As Step 3 of re-opening commences in few days, we really hope that selected students who went through all the competition are allowed to travel as well.
