The Directorate of Education recommends canceling both written and oral exams in primary and secondary school this spring.

The recommendation emerges from a risk analysis that the Directorate presented on Monday.

“The exam is an important part of the final assessment in Norway. Although there are many arguments for canceling the exams, there are also arguments for carrying out the exams. Therefore, this has been a demanding assessment to make,” director Hege Nilssen in the Directorate of Education noted in a press release.

Third time

In 2020 and 2021, all written and oral exams at these grades were canceled due to the corona pandemic. The Directorate of Education is now recommending that this be done for the third time.

The final decision will be made by the Ministry of Education and Research.

Several people have demanded that the exams be canceled, including Oslo School Councilor Sunniva Holmås Eidsvoll (SV).
