Many Norwegians rushed to the stores to hoard when the corona pandemic came and Norway shut down. Sales of canned food doubled in the weeks following the closure.

“Compared to the same period last year, there is a doubling in the sales of canned food,” says communications director Elisabeth Aandstad Ekheim of Orkla Norge to ABC News.

That’s the new record for canned food, according to Ekheim.

The hoarding of toilet paper also produced a strong impact in the statistics. Washing and household goods increased by as much as 82 per cent in week 11, the same week that the government introduced the corona measures. This was stated in Nielsen Norge’s report of the first quarter for the grocery industry this year.
