After a year of record sales of new cabins, cabin manufacturers expect further growth of sales and new construction in 2022.

In 2021, 7,205 new holiday homes were sold, which is 17% more than the year before, according to figures for the sale and construction of new holiday homes from Boligprodusentenes Forening, the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv writes.

“This means that the holiday home market is now larger than the single-family home market,” CEO Per Jæger of Boligprodusentenes Forening told the newspaper.

During the same period, 5,349 newly-built single-family homes were sold. That is a decrease of 10% from 2020.

Last year, construction began on 5,631 new holiday homes, more than 35% more than in 2020. Gruppen, Saltdalshytta, Tinde Hytter, Norgeshus, and Blink Hus are the five largest cabin manufacturers.

“We had a growth of 12% in the number of new cabins under construction from 2020 to 2021, and we expect that we will grow by another 50% this year,” group leader Anders E. Nybø in FH Gruppen stated.
