Precise at 8 was the flag fluttering in the wind on Skaugum. Fifteen minutes later, a smiling, costume clad Crown family were out on the stairs to greet the Asker school children welcome. And started the celebrations of the royal jubilee .
The pleasant May 17th tradition on Skaugum has existed since 1946, when Crown Prince Olav was asked by Asker Municipality if the Crown Prince family would like to welcome the parade on Skaugum.
- Yeah, sure, but it must be done early, before we have to travel to the Palace to greet the parade there was the answer.
And since it has been a tradition. Only in connection with the conversion of Crown property in the early 2000s had the children parade to choose a different route.
Earlier the Asker russ went in the parade to Skaugum, but it ended in 2003, when staff and the security around the Crown family believed it degenerated by the russ who took too many liberties. The security of the royal was also an argument that was used.
