A sudden sneaker wave resulted in a 46-foot yacht falling off a cargo ship at the  south of Hidra in Flekkefjord. The yacht was later washed ashore in Egersund.

The yacht that  tumbled off the  freighter in the high waves, was a Princess 46 foot yacht, according to the local newspaper Fædrelandsvennen.

– A surge had turned the yacht overboard, said rescue leader Cecilie Øversveen at  JRCC Southern Norway (HRS) to the newspaper.

HRS was notified of the incident 5:30 Sunday morning and then sent out warning to all ships in the area.

– We do not salvage boats. The company’s insurance company sent a tug boat, but the  sea in the area was so heavy that it was impossible to save it, says Øversveen.

At 12:30 pm the boat hit the rocks outside Stapnes in Egersund.
