“I am happy and relieved that Kjartan is finally set free from Abu Sayyaf. The most important thing now is that he is healthy and not harmed in any way”, says Odd-Kåre Sekkingstad, brother of Kjartan Sekkingstad, to news agency NTB. The family asks for understanding their privacy and for not being able to give more information at this point.
The comment of Odd-Kåre Sekkingstad follows after the statement of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Børge Brende that Filipino authorities have confirmed that Sekkingstad is no longer in captivity by the Islamic group Abu Sayyaf.
“Sekkingstad is now, according to the Filipono authorities, in a relatively safe place. We are following the situation closely and are working together with the Filipino authorities to secure the safety of Sekkingstad. We continue to work on this case and will not get ahead of ourselves before Sekkingstad is safe and taken care of by the Filipino authorities”, says Børge Brende.
