The Danish Socialist People’s Party (SF) wants to make the promotion of “sugar dating” punishable in the same way as pimping. In Norway, the concept is often referred to as gray-area prostitution.

The Danish SF is raising its voice against websites and digital platforms that facilitate “sugar dating,” newspaper Jyllands-Posten writes.

“Sugar dating” is usually a relationship between an older and a younger person, where the older person gives money, gifts, or experiences in return for intimacy, which can often consist of sexual benefits.

It is illegal to buy sexual services in Norway, but not to sell them.

It is uncertain whether “sugar dating” – and if so in what forms – is covered by the sex purchase ban.
