FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg encourages everyone to seize the chance when they are offered a corona vaccine this summer.

The director of the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) says it will be possible to get the vaccine later but that it is not certain that it will happen in August or when it suits the individual.

In recent days, it has become known that several Norwegian municipalities have too many vaccine doses because many people are not showing up for vaccination or not booking an appointment.

Stoltenberg says people should seize the opportunity when they are offered a vaccine in the municipality they live in.

A race against time

“Our highest priority now is to get as many people vaccinated as possible with the first dose. We are in a race between vaccination and the spread of the delta variant and must ensure that as many as possible receive protection as soon as possible,” Stoltenberg said.

It has also emerged that several municipalities have too many vaccines. The FHI director noted these municipalities must immediately notify the Institute.

“In this way, FHI can ensure that municipalities that (actually) need more vaccines get them as soon as possible,” Stoltenberg noted.
