FHI’s director of infection control, Geir Bukholm, believes the borders could reopen at the end of May after everyone over the age of 45 has received the first dose of the corona vaccine.

“Eventually, the borders will open, and there will be normal tourist traffic… It could happen at the end of May, but I can’t be completely sure,” Bukholm told newspaper VG.

Currently, the biggest obstacle is the lack of vaccines.

“In May and June, we will get large supplies. It is almost an exponential jump. From vaccinating a relatively small proportion, we will suddenly vaccinate almost everyone in the course of two months,” he said.

Travel abroad has been discouraged since Norway closed down in March last year.
