Friday will be the last night people can drink alcohol in the bars and pubs past midnight for a while. The Oslo police ask people to take responsibility and to party in moderation.

“We expect a lot of people to go out, first and foremost because of the good weather, then there are usually a lot of people in the city,” says Operations Manager André Kråkenes of the Oslo police district to NTB.

“My message is that people should party in moderation,” he says.

On Friday, it was announced that the government will introduce a national pub ban in the hours after midnight – a ban that will take effect from Saturday night.

Thus, Friday night to Saturday morning, is the last nightlife for a while. Almost the whole country is bathing in sun and good weather, which can lead to a lot of people being out on the streets in the big cities.

In Oslo, the police have normal summer staffing, and they have not planned any extra patrols as a result of the situation with the liquor ban. But Kråkenes says that he expects people to comply with the authorities’ advice.

“It is important that people keep their distance and take other people into account, not just themselves. I hope it has dawned on people lately that this is not over, and that people take the infection control advice seriously,” says Kråkenes.
