Man charged with attempted murder after collision on E6

A man in his 30s is charged with the attempted murder of his wife after a collision on E6 near Sarpsborg on Thursday morning.

The Eastern Police District announced the information in a press release on Friday.

“The driver of the car that caused the accident was arrested at the scene of the accident and is now in police custody. Due to his health condition, he is hospitalized,” the police wrote.

The newspaper Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad first mentioned the charges against the man, who is in his 30s and from the Fredrikstad area.

The man’s wife is seriously injured

The incident happened on the E6 at Grålum outside Sarpsborg on Thursday morning. The car in which the man was driving drove into another car at high speed. 

The man himself ran from the scene after the accident but was arrested shortly afterward. Police said after the accident that the collision appeared to be a deliberate act.

The man’s wife was also sitting in the car. Her condition was described as serious after the accident, and she is admitted to Østfold Kalnes hospital.

One woman was sitting in the car that the man drove into. The collision caused the woman’s car to spin around. According to the police, she is hospitalized at Ullevål hospital with serious injuries.

Custody hearing

“If the man’s state of health allows it, he will be questioned during Friday,” the police wrote.

Lawyer Harald Otterstad has been appointed as defense counsel for the accused. He visited his client at Østfold Kalnes hospital on Thursday and got to talk to him.

“He is strongly affected by what has happened. Beyond that, I do not want to go further into what he has said,” Otterstad told Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad.

The man is being produced for custody in Sarpsborg District Court on Friday afternoon.
