A man in his 40s was, police said, nearly in collisions several times as he drove with a high level of alcohol in his bloodstream in Drammen. His wife and small daughter were in the back seat.
Police were alerted by a witness, who saw the car swerving very much at 00.25 on Saturday night.
‘The car was overtaken by the police, but wouldn’t stop. They continued onward toward where they live, but were eventually trapped by police cars’, said operations manager, Svein Erik Gevelt,of Southern Buskerud Police District to the news agency, NTB.
Police will not say anything about the age of the daughter, other than that she was a child.
The police operations manager designated the episode as ‘madness’, and said that preliminary tests indicated that the man had a blood alcohol level of between 1.5 and 2.
‘The car was close to colliding repeatedly. The woman driving the car behind was terrified that it would end in a traffic accident’, said Svein Gevelt.
The driver shouted obscenities at the police and was taken to jail. The wife and daughter were driven home to their residence.
‘We have made contact with the child welfare department, who are planning to talk with the child’s mother’, said the operational manager.
