Mayors in Finnmark want Norway to use the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to speed up vaccination against the coronavirus in the country.

Several mayors in Finnmark told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that they believe Norway should be able to use the Russian vaccine if it is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Acting Mayor Pål Gabrielsen (SV) in the border municipality Sør-Varanger believes the situation with municipalities being set up against each other due to the scarcity of vaccines is unfortunate.

Gabrielsen believes the issue could have been solved by Norway contacting Russia to gain access to the Sputnik vaccine.

He pointed out that the Municipality already has good cooperation with local and national Russian authorities.

Hammerfest Mayor Marianne Sivertsen Næss (AP) told NRK that she wishes there was access to more vaccines.

The Center Party’s (SP) Marit Arnstad told newspaper Klassekampen that she believes Sputnik V is a good candidate to secure more vaccines for Norway.
