The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to Chad and encourages Norwegian citizens to leave the country.

Chadian President Idriss Déby died earlier this week, allegedly after participating in the fight against the rebels.

In the aftermath, a chaotic situation has arisen, and the late president’s son Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has proclaimed himself the country’s leader.

“The tightened travel advice is an expression of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ view of the deteriorating overall security situation in Chad,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a statement on Friday night.

The travel advice applies in addition to the pandemic-related travel council, which advises against travel that is not strictly necessary to all countries. This travel advice is valid until May 15.
