There are now as many people who use snus daily in Norway as in Sweden. Still, among the younger part of the population, more people use snus in Norway than in Sweden, according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

Young Norwegian women use snus far more than their Swedish counterparts. In contrast, older Swedish men use more snus than Norwegians of the same age, SSB figures show.

Statistics Norway presented the figures on snus use on the occasion of World Tobacco-Free Day – May 31.

“Since 2008, there has been much stronger growth in the proportion of those who use snus daily in Norway than in Sweden. Now we are at the same level as our neighboring country,” chief consultant Sindre Mikael Haugen in Statistics Norway stated.

The Norwegian Smoking Act of 2004 is believed to have contributed to the increase in snus use.
