The Norwegian government is removing the requirement for entry quarantine for persons without a valid corona certificate. They believe the requirement is no longer professionally necessary for infection control.
The new rules come into force on Wednesday, January 26.
Today, persons who arrive in Norway from an area with a quarantine obligation who can’t document that they have been fully vaccinated or that they have had COVID-19 with a valid corona certificate must go to entry quarantine.
The National Institute of Public Health (FHI) points out that travelers “without a corona certificate” make up 7% of registered travelers and 4% of cases of infection.
Relatively small proportion of those infected
“I agree with the FHI that the proportion of infected people among immigrants without a corona certificate is so small related to the infection situation that we have in Norway now that the time has come to change the requirement for entry quarantine,” Minister of Health and Care Services Ingvild Kjerkol (AP) noted in the press releases.
The Ministry states that travelers must still test themselves and register upon arrival in Norway.
The requirement for proof of a negative test taken before arrival still applies to persons who cannot document that they have been fully vaccinated or have undergone COVID-19 with a corona certificate.
Need for context
Kjerkol explains that she now believes the requirement for entry quarantine needs to be revoked to see the infection and entry quarantine in context.
“The infection quarantine for close contacts who are members of a household or similar has already been removed. From January 26, the infection quarantine for household members and similar relatives can be replaced with daily testing,” Kjerkol said.
Those who are already in entry quarantine can stop the quarantine on January 26.
