Norway’s Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol (AP) says that new national corona measures will be announced on Tuesday. “These will be measures that we will notice in our everyday lives,” Kjerkol says.

Kjerkol told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that the government will put forward new measures on Tuesday because there is a lot of infection related to the delta variant.

“In addition, we have the omicron (variant) on top of that, which spreads quickly,” Kjerkol added.

“These will be measures that we will notice in our everyday lives,” she noted.

Met with the municipalities

According to Kjerkol, new contact-reducing measures are now needed. On Monday, she held a meeting with the municipalities about dealing with the pandemic and the need for action.

Infection rates in Norway are record high, and the omicron variant is infecting more and more people. Kjerkol has previously said that she is concerned about the development.

In the last 24 hours, 2,576 corona infection cases have been registered in Norway. On Monday, 295 corona-infected patients were hospitalized in Norway.

The number of corona patients is now approaching the peak that was registered during the spring. On April 7, there were 307 corona patients admitted to hospitals.
