The cooperation between Norwegian and Swedish police is being extended. The police can in future request assistance from neighboring countries in terror and crisis situations.

“I’m pleased that we have now secured the opportunity for effective cooperation between our special efforts in crisis situations,” says Minister of Justice, Emergency and Immigration Tor Mikkel Wara (Frp).

The agreement applies in Norway to the police preparedness group. The troop may thus request assistance, or be asked to assist, the Swedish special unit in situations such as terrorist acts, hostages, hijacking and similar serious crimes.

The government officially endorsed the negotiating draft agreement between Norwegian justice and justice authorities in Norway and Sweden on Friday. The declaration and finalization of the negotiations was signed by Tor Mikkel Wara during the Nordic Justice Ministerial Meeting in Lund on 1 June 2018.
