US President Barack Obama has gone aboard Air Force One and headed towards Cuba for a three-day historic visit.
The presidential plane took off from Andrews Air Force Base just outside Washington at 18.30 time Norwegian time on Sunday.
The three-day visit, the first made a by a US president still in power to Cuba in 88 years, is the result of a diplomatic thawing process between the two countries which began in December 2014.
Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro then announced that the two countries would begin work on establishing diplomatic contact again.
Since then, the US has opened an embassy on the island and eased a number of economic sanctions.
Obama will be bringing both his wife Michelle and their two daughters on the historic visit.
