Progress party in Troms will prohibit nikab, burqa and solid swimsuit, so called BURQINI, in all high schools of the county.
This autumn the party will submit a proposal for a ban in Troms County, reported by NRK news.
– These are garments (cloths) that are fundamental against the values we stand for in Norway and we cannot accept something against our culture in a free and modern society, said county representative Kristian Eilertsen .
He believes a ban can contribute to better integration.
– We have had a massive immigration to Norway and Troms and we are struggling to reach a good integration therefore such a ban could enable us to deal with these problems in the future, said Eilertsen.
Last week it was announced that pupils in Finnsnes primary school can participate in swimming lessons with solid swimsuit, reported newspaper Nordlys.
According to County Governor in Troms cannot prohibit hijab and BURQINI in schools but it may be allowed to regulate the conduct code if the face is covered with nikab or other garment that a person could determine identity.
