Children’s rights and the rule of law must be strengthened in several areas, proposes a selection in a report on the Child Welfare Act.

Children and Equality Minister Solveig Horne received on Thursday the public report from the Commission chairman Christian Børge Sørensen.

Horne stated that it is high time to get a modernization of the rules, which she acknowledged often appears as fragmented and not very transparent.

– To ensure legal protection for children and families, we must have an accessible legislation, the minister stated with certainity.

– What I am very pleased that the Law Commission has set so high, is that children should grow up in safety, love and understanding, preferably in their own family. That legal rights of children have such a large part of the law, is among the most important that has been done, said Horne.

The Commission proposes that the new child protection law is based on the child as an individual with independent rights.
