The Foreign Ministry has received information that Norwegian citizens were killed in the terrorist attack on the Hayat Hotel in central Mogadishu. According to the newspaper VG, two Norwegians were killed.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received information that Norwegian citizens have been killed in the terrorist attack on Hotel Hayat in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. We are also investigating whether Norwegian citizens may have been injured in the attack,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told NTB.

“Due to local conditions, it will take time to get the information confirmed. We are in contact with local authorities in Mogadishu,” they added.

According to the Tawfiiq Islamic Center in Oslo, both those killed had residential addresses in Oslo, VG writes. They were in their 50s.

At least 21 people were killed in the attack on Friday and Saturday, for which the extremist Islamist group al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility.

The attack started on Friday evening when two car bombs were set off at the hotel entrance.
