Valon Berisha (23) has decided to play international football for Kosovo. Brother Veton (22) continues for Norway.
This is what the NFF said in a statement Thursday night.
As late as on Monday’s press conference the coaching staff said that both Berisha brothers had agreed to play for Norway. But it turned out to be different.
– I and the family have strong feelings for both Norway and Kosovo, but I feel an extra connection to Kosovo after it became an independent nation, and I have a big family there.
At the same time, it meant a lot to me and Veton playing for Norway where we are born and raised. Therefore, we have chosen to represent each our country, says Valon Berisha.
The Salzburg professional has so far played 20 caps for Norway. There probably will not be more.
– There are strong feelings and a very difficult choice to make. Therefore, I changed my mind after advice from the family, which I hope everyone respects, he says.
Valon and Veton Berisha were both taken out in the Norwegian squad for games against Belarus on August 31 and Germany on September 4.
