While a travel insurance from e.g. IF and European Travel Insurance in practice are worthless with the present recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are better and often cheaper alternatives with far better coverage and service in Spain.

IF and European Travel Insurance have made their own travel insurances worthless abroad. On their website, they write: “Remember that travel insurance does not apply to the countries that the Foreign Ministry recommends against travelling to, even though these countries have lifted the ban on entry. So, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not advise traveling to all countries. ”

Norwegians are of course free to buy travel insurance from suppliers in other EU countries who follow different standards. European suppliers can offer insurance products with better coverage and many companies have better service in Spain where they also have their own representatives.

Best known is probably AXA. The company is originally French but is one of the largest insurance companies in Spain. Their “AXA Schengen” covers damage / loss of up to 100,000 Euro when traveling in all countries in the Schengen zone, including travel in Norway or Spain as long as the journey is a maximum of 180 days. Price is from € 30 per week. For more info see AXA Europe Travel Schengen.

ASA has a service where you can search among several travel insurance suppliers that also cover Spain. You enter data such as age, nationality, where to travel and length of the trip, and you get prices with several companies. Prices are from around 2 Euro per day of travel. See asaincor.com

Allianz is one German major company many may know, Allianz Global Assistance is their travel insurance that also covers travel in Spain. More info at: allianz-assistance.es
