The number of payment card and Vipps purchases on the internet increased in the second quarter, but in total, Norwegians traded for less money than in the same period of last year.
A total of 106 million transactions with international payment cards issued in Norway and Vipps were registered on the internet in the second quarter of this year.
A total of NOK 40 billion was spent on e-commerce, Statistics Norway (SSB) noted.
The use of BankAxept was excluded from the statistics.
Increase in sales of goods on the internet
At the same time, the total use of cards outside e-commerce fell by 40%, which is mainly due to less business-related travel and less money spent abroad during the pandemic.
The survey shows that during the pandemic, trading took place more frequently and for smaller amounts than before.
Even though the number of transactions increased, the total amount was 1% lower than in the second quarter of 2019.
There was a sharp increase in sales of goods on the internet, but sales of services fell significantly.
