In October and November, around 112,000 smart watches were imported, an increase of around 44 percent from the same period last year, according to preliminary figures from Statistics Norway.

– If one is to judge by the import figures, there is a greater chance of getting a smart watch than cross-country skis for Christmas, states SSB’s new report.

November imports of smart watches to Norway were just over 60,500 watches, the highest number ever recorded.

Mobile phone imports fell by around 10,000 in the two pre-Christmas months this year compared to the same months last year. But with close to 444,000 imported phones, the decline is no greater than 2 percent.

Imports of Christmas decorations are worth just over NOK 150 million and a bit over 3,800 tonnes of chocolate in October and November.

There is a decline in imports of winter sport equipment across the board, with a fall of over 42 percent on alpine skis, Statistics Norway reports.
