A homemade bomb has been found in a rubbish bin near the residence of the US ambassador in Reykjavik, Icelandic media reports.

Three people were arrested when the special forces moved out to the area on Tuesday morning.

The bomb was found near the residence of the US ambassador to Iceland.

The United States currently has no ambassador to Iceland. The top American diplomat in the country is Michelle Yerkin, who is the chargé d’affaires at the embassy.

It is unclear whether the police believe the bomb was intended to hit the ambassador or the home, but according to the newspaper Frettabladid’s sources, meetings were held at the government level on Tuesday due to a possible connection between the bomb discovery and the ambassador’s residence.

According to the newspaper Visir, the bomb is homemade.
