We can not take stability in the North for granted, the Minister of foreign affairs Børge Brende said.
– The buildup up Russian forces growth and their intensification of exercises in the north requires vigilance. The military-strategic balance in the north shifts in Russia’s favor, Brende said in his foreign policy address to parliament Tuesday.
– Norway needs to meet this by taking a firm and predictable position on these issues. It is also the reason that the government is working on drawing NATO attention toward the north, he said.
He stressed that the North is a peaceful and stable region and pointed out that Norway’s cooperation with Russia works well in a number of areas in the north.
