One man has been left critically injured after a house fire in Sarpsborg on Sunday night. He will be flown to the burn department at Haukeland hospital in Bergen.

A total of six people were evacuated from the burning house in Greåkerveien in Sarpsborg on Sunday night. The fire in the older residential building was discovered by a police patrol that happened to pass by at 2:36 AM.

The fire supposedly started on the ground floor. Police say they do not suspect arson but say it is too early to comment on the cause of the fire.

Five people are unharmed, but a man who is considered to have critical injuries has been sent to the hospital at Kalnes in Sarpsborg. He will be sent on to the burn department at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, operations manager Finn Håvard Aas in the Eastern Police District told NTB on Sunday morning.

He added that the fire crews had gained control of the situation by 3:20 AM. On Sunday morning, the fire brigade was engaged in post-extinguishing efforts on the spot. The home has badly damaged in the fire. There are three accommodation units at the address.

“Seven people have been registered at the address, but the last one is abroad,” the operations manager noted.
