Man in his 60s from Austria found dead in Flakstad

A man in his 60s from Austria has been found dead on Kitinden in Flakstad Municipality in Lofoten.

The man was found dead at 3:52 AM on Saturday, Nordland Police District informs.

“Volunteer crews from the Red Cross were sent out, as well as a rescue helicopter from Bodø. There were demanding conditions in the mountains, considering the rough terrain, a lot of wind, and rain showers,” the police wrote in a press release.

Relatives have been notified and are being cared for by the Municipality’s crisis team. Due to bad weather, an operation is still underway to retrieve the deceased from the area.

“Everything indicates that this is a tragic accident and that he fell,” the police wrote.
