Conservation efforts are underway in Norway’s capital.
Oslo kommune is creating a cultural heritage report focused on preserving and reusing several of the city’s older buildings.
“We must preserve and reuse buildings and materials far longer into the future if we are to achieve our climate goals”, City Councilor for Urban Development Rasmus Reinvang (MDG) said in a press release.
Oslo is now taking steps to do just that. The upcoming report is the first of its kind in 18 years for Oslo.
“I hope the cultural heritage report will make Oslo’s historical values visible, and stimulate both preservation and wiser and more respectful use in the future,” Reinsvang noted.
The Councilor mentioned buildings such as culture hub Kulturhuset, event and creativity center Sentralen, and nightlife, food, and event space Telegrafen as examples of old buildings that have been refurbished and modernized for the benefit of cultural life, per Avisa Oslo.
“What has already been built is a resource from the climate and environmental perspective. We tear down too much in Oslo today,” Reinsvang added.
The deadline for providing input for Oslo kommune’s report is September 1, 2021.
