Almost six months after the new electric ferries were to take over passenger transport in the Oslo Fjord, only two of them have been in use. At the moment, none of them are in operation.

“Two ferries are approved and ready for operation. The third will be ready for sailing with passengers in a few days. Ferry number four has arrived in Oslo and is in the process of preparation and final approval by the maritime authorities,” Ruter’s press officer Knut-Martin Løken told the newspaper Avisa Oslo.

The two ships that are approved lack a crew due to illness. The crew is employed by Boreal, which is working on bringing in people from other places.

“We strongly regret that there are some challenges in the start-up phase, and look forward to putting all the vessels in scheduled traffic as soon as possible,” general manager Steinar Mathisen in Boreal Sjø said.
