Minister of Transport and Communications Knut Arild Hareide (KrF) believes that Wizz Air will have problems maintaining its business model if the company increases activity in Norway.

“When it comes to Wizz Air, they have the opportunity to have flights in Norway. But it will probably be more difficult for the company if they increase operations too much when it comes to domestic flights,” Hareide said in the Norwegian parliament (Storting) on Wednesday.

According to him, the Hungarian low-cost airline must follow Norwegian laws and working conditions differently if it starts flying many domestic routes in Norway.

Challenges ahead

“Wizz Air will probably have challenges with its model if their domestic flight offer gets too large,” he added.

The warning came in response to a question from the Labor Party’s (AP) Sverre Myrli.

He referred to an article by newspaper Dagens Næringsliv, which revealed that, among other things, pilots in Wizz Air must cover their own pensions, insurance, and sickness benefits.

“That’s simply social dumping. This is not how we want it in Norway,” Myrli said.

  1. If Norway doesn’t take steps to curb social dumping now, you will regret it later.
