Successful Businessman Ragnar Horn and his wife are sentenced to three months in prison by the Courts of Appeal for breach of the au pair scheme.

Former chairman of the shipmaker RS Platou, Ragnar Horn, and his wife were convicted last year in Oslo district court for five months of unconditional imprisonment, writes E24.

The married couple appealed to Borgarting Courts of Appeal, which has thus sentenced them to 90 days in prison in addition to a fine of 186,000 kroner. The two have been convicted of giving false statements to public authorities and several violations of the Immigration Act.

The case revolves around the fact that the couple have had several au pairs in two years, among them two Philippine sisters. Since only one au pair is allowed, a friend couple of theirs had told the Immigration Directorate that one sister should be with them. They were charged with violations of the Immigration Act and false statement against public authority.

Ragnar Horn’s lawyer, Svein Holden, says the couple will appeal the case to the Supreme Court.

“It is obviously a step in the right direction that the court of appeal reduced the punishment by the district court by 40 percent, but we disagree with the court of appeals, the law enforcement and punishment,” says Holden.
