Several youth political parties believe that Norway must contribute more to help the people from the Moria refugee camp in Greece.
On Friday morning, they demonstrated by standing in a circle around parts of the Norwegian parliament (Storting).
Some youth organizations also participated in the solidarity celebration, which had the message: “Norway must contribute more. We stand with the refugees in Moria.”
Young Liberals of Norway (Unge Venstre), Young Christian Democrats (Norway) (Kristelig Folkepartis Ungdom), Centre Youth (Senterungdommen), Workers’ Youth League (AUF), Socialist Youth (SU), Red Youth (Rød Ungdom), PRESS, lightup Norway, and Changemaker were among the youth parties and organizations affiliated with the demonstration.
Press lead Lea Mariero believes it was just a matter of time before Moria would become a disaster.
“13,000 refugees were crammed together in a camp built for 3,000, and several had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Now the camp has burned down and the situation is critical.
Norway has the resources and capacity to receive significantly more than 50 asylum seekers from the Greek refugee islands”, she told news bureau NTB.
