The red carpet were rolled out, and the Norwegian star gallery of actors were in place when the new blockbuster Birkebeiners premiered at the Coliseum cinema in Oslo on Friday.
The film, directed by veteran Nils Gaup, is set int the year 1204 and is the story of the flight that changed Norway.
The leading actors Kristofer Hivju and Jakob Oftebro are playing the parts of the two Birkebeinere (Birchlegs) Torstein Skjevla and Skjervald Skrukka who takes the king’s illegitimate son with them and make the historic ski trip to protect Håkon Håkonson from the Baglers, who wanted the future king removed . Håkon Håkonson eventually became king and ended the civil wars that ravaged the country. Under him, Norway had its heyday in the Middle Ages.Besides the main roles of the two Birkebeinere the film musters a dream team of Norwegian actors, including Thorbjørn Harr, Pål Sverre Hagen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Søren Pilmark, Bjørn Sundquist, Benjamin Helstad, Ane Ulimoen Øverli, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Fridtjov Såheim and Stig Henrik Hoff.
