The Cultural Council will grant more than NOK 170 million to over 165 music festivals in 2022.

Increased funding for music festivals nationwide

An increase in funding of NOK 10 million will see more than NOK 170 million handed out to music festivals throughout the country in 2022 by the Cultural Council of Norway.

Jan Ole Otnæs, head of the Cultural Council’s music committee, hoped the extra money would get many festivals through a “state of emergency” that arts and cultural activities find themself in at the moment.

He noted that not only was there an increase in applications for grant money but that priority would be given to “festivals aimed at children and young people, and festivals that present the art and culture of minorities.

Some of the nation’s biggest and best music festivals will receive extra money including Kongsberg Jazz Festival, Oslo World, and Midgardsblot Metal Festival.
