Bodø will become the European Capital of Culture in 2024. People in the city are excited, and Councilor Rolf Kåre Jensen thinks it will benefit the entire region.

“This is a fantastic day for Bodø,” says councilor Rolf Kåre Jensen to NTB in Brussels just after the decision was announced.

“This is not just a cultural and social project for Bodø and Nordland. This is a social development project. I don’t think people have any idea how big this is,” says Jensen.

“This is great for the development of the city and the region, plain and simple.”

300 million
The application process has been long, but the real work begins now.

“There are many years to 2024. Now we will roll up the shirt sleeves and drive on. There will be plenty of activity in Bodø and Nordland until it peaks in 2024, with activities all year round,” the councilor says.

Jensen says a budget of around NOK 300 million has been allocated.

Culture Minister Trine Skei Grande (Venstre/Left Party) congratulates Bodø on the award.
