The Danish-Norwegian co-produced film “Flukt” (Escape) has been nominated for Oscars in the “Best Documentary”, “Best Foreign Film,” and “Best Animated Film” categories.

3 Oscar nominations, direct competition with Norwegian hit film

The jointly Danish and Norwegian produced film, “Flukt” has been nominated for Oscars in 3 categories, including “Best Foreign Language Film”. This puts it in direct competition with the hit Norwegian film, “Verdens Verste Menneske”.

The animated film tells the story of Amin, a 36-year-old who fled from Afghanistan to Denmark when he was a child. It has won critical praise both in Europe and the United States, winning best documentary film at both the Sundance and Gothenburg Film Festivals. It has also won the 2021 Nordic Council Film Prize while it is also nominated for “Best Documentary” and “Best Animated Film” at the upcoming BAFTAs in London.

The film has a strong Norwegian presence. Maria Ekerhovd, from the Norwegian film production company, Mer Film, is co-producer whilst Tormod Ringnes is jointly responsible for the sound design.
